Mary's Art
Wanting to honor my cat Soxy, who died of cancer, I took a pet portrait pastel class in 2022 with artist Linda French from Loveland. I hadn’t created any art for years, and this experience totally reignited my love of art and drawing! I really enjoy blending the chalk with my fingertips and other tools to create different colors, textures, and effects.
My portrait of Soxy was shown during the 2022 Berthoud Open Studios Tour. This resulted in my first commission, a pastel portrait of a Siamese cat, Namaste. I’m currently working on a portrait of a dog. Though I’ve only been working in this medium for a short time, I’ve branched out to paint pastels of other subjects, such as a landscape and a sunset. My Cloud Forms: Gravity Waves pastel was included in the 2023 Lincoln Gallery Members Exhibit.
What I really love painting is pastels of animals. Our pets bring us such love, emotional comfort and entertainment! They’re part of our family.
I would be pleased to capture the personality, expression, and texture of your pet in a portrait, so that you have them with you forever.
