Mary's Art

Wanting to honor my cat Soxy, who died of cancer, I took a pet portrait pastel class in 2022 at the Lincoln Gallery in Loveland. This experience totally reignited my love of art and drawing! I enjoy blending the chalk with my fingertips and other tools to create different colors, textures, and effects, and I've expanded from animals into Nature scenes, as well. My Cloud Forms: Gravity Waves pastel was included in the 2023 Lincoln Gallery Members Exhibit.

Cats & Dogs
I really love painting pastels of cats and dogs! Our pets bring us so much love, comfort, and entertainment! They’re part of our families, and always in our hearts.

The portrait of my cat Soxy was shown during the 2022 Berthoud Open Studios Tour. This resulted in my first commission, a pastel of a Siamese cat, Namaste. I've been painting cats ever since!

My portraits of dogs include a special one I did for the owner of Berthoud Pet Supply. It shows both her dogs, Mr. Bones and Petra (the one-eyed dog), in a 12" X 16" size portrait.
Since they were dressed in winter scarves, I changed the background setting to be outdoors, with trees and snow.

Commission a Portrait
A handmade work of art is so much more intricate and personal than putting a photo in a frame. An artist can enhance a photographic image by simplifying or taking out distracting backgrounds, and by focusing attention on the pet's face and fur.

I would be honored to capture the personality, expression, and texture of your pet in a portrait, so that you have them with you forever. This is a wonderful way to capture your pet, or memorialize a beloved pet.
